The purpose of this innovative project is to develop a digitalized technological solution through telecare that facilitates the diagnosis and monitoring of frailty in different vulnerable sectors of the population, facilitating the remote control of various physical and physiological parameters associated with human frailty.
Frailty is a health condition associated with aging that describes a set of symptoms and conditions that indicate a decrease in functional capacity and an increase in vulnerability. Frailty can be measured by various indicators, and its early diagnosis is key to implementing strategies to improve the quality of life of affected individuals.
In this context, BIOLAN initiates the development of a standardized instrument that allows the identification and monitoring of frailty associated with aging, quickly and easily, in the field of routine care. It is a comprehensive solution consisting of three devices: first, the Sitting Device, a chair equipped with pressure sensors that, depending on how the person to be diagnosed sits and stands up, determines his or her level of frailty. Secondly, the Smart-band Device, which allows remote monitoring of physiological parameters associated with frailty, whose data will be processed solely and exclusively by BIOLAN. Finally, rapid lateral flow tests that detect biological markers of frailty.
BIOLAN is carrying out this project thanks to the support of CDTI Innovation, the Innovation Funding Agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities that promotes innovation and technological development of Spanish companies within a joint call of ISCIII-CDTI 2023. In the project also collaborates the technology center of Tekniker, in charge of designing and developing the software and electronics embedded in the data acquisition platform of the sitting device and the Smart-band, and the Biogipuzkoa Health Research Institute, a national and international reference center in health research.
The progressive aging of the population poses significant challenges, which makes the prevention and treatment of frailty a priority to ensure a better quality of life for the elderly. Thus, BIOLAN is positioned as a key player in a highly competitive and innovative sector such as the health sector, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the population and promoting an active and healthy aging. Through its advanced technological solutions, BIOLAN contributes decisively to this important social and health challenge.
