The study identifies companies that are leaders in international markets while maintaining strong local roots
BIOLAN has been selected as one of the Basque companies taking part in the “Basque Hidden Champions” project, an initiative promoted by BBK Foundation and Orkestra – Basque Institute of Competitiveness. We are proud to be part of this new business forum, bringing together Basque companies that lead international niche markets while building on a strong local foundation.
This recognition positions BIOLAN among the highly specialised Basque companies that stand out for their ability to compete in global markets, drive innovation and contribute to strengthening the Basque industrial ecosystem.
BIOLAN’s selection as a Hidden Champion represents significant recognition of the work we have been carrying out since our inception. Our commitment is to provide innovative analytical and diagnostic solutions, promote technological progress in strategic fields, and bring the knowledge developed in Euskadi to markets around the world.
On 15 June, we had the opportunity to take part in the first Hidden Champions Forum, held in Bilbao. The event brought together the companies that make up this community to share experiences, discuss common challenges and reflect on the future of Basque industry in an increasingly demanding global environment.
During the event, the report Basque Hidden Champions: International Niche Market Leaders with local roots, prepared by Orkestra with the support of BBK Foundation, was presented. The study, which is available online, highlights the strategic importance of these companies for Euskadi’s competitiveness and underlines their ability to combine specialisation, internationalisation and commitment to their local area.
One of the report’s most significant findings is that four out of five Hidden Champions operate outside the Basque capitals. As a result, they make a decisive contribution to sustaining skilled employment, industrial activity and economic development across municipalities and industrial corridors throughout the region.
This finding reflects a reality with which BIOLAN strongly identifies: the conviction that it is possible to compete successfully in international markets while maintaining close ties to the local environment and contributing to the progress of the community of which we are a part.
