Our commitment to the environment is firm and unwavering. In 2023, we implemented an Environmental Management System certified to the ISO 14001:2015, standard, thereby reinforcing our environmental responsibility and our commitment to continuous improvement.
Through our Management Policy, we define the values and principles that guide our operations, including respect for the environment and transparency toward all stakeholders.
BIOLAN’s goal is to identify and implement measures that reduce the environmental impacts resulting from our operations, moving toward a model of sustainable development.
We calculate our carbon footprint (Scopes 1 and 2) as part of our strategy for continuous improvement.
In 2025, we reduced our emissions by 13% compared to the previous year, reinforcing our commitment to reducing our environmental impact. In addition, we have offset 12.9% of our total CO₂ emissions.
We are actively working to monitor and optimize our consumption of natural resources, particularly in the area of energy.
By 2025, we have managed to increase our use of renewable energy by 51%. We have two photovoltaic systems (12 kW and 20 kW) operating at full capacity, as well as charging stations for electric vehicles that promote more sustainable mobility.
In addition:
We have also managed to reduce emissions associated with transportation, including commercial vehicles, air travel, and shipping, achieving an overall reduction of 23% in our emissions thanks to the implementation of best environmental practices.
At BIOLAN, we manage both hazardous and non-hazardous waste responsibly, working exclusively with authorized waste management companies and strictly complying with current regulations.
Our operations do not generate a significant volume of waste or cause any major environmental impact, but we maintain a preventive approach and a commitment to continuous improvement in our waste management practices.
At BIOLAN, we continuously identify, analyze, and update all legislation applicable to our business.
We periodically assess our level of compliance to ensure that we always operate in accordance with current regulations, incorporating any regulatory changes into our processes.
Our team’s commitment is key to advancing environmental sustainability. That is why we promote environmental awareness through ongoing training and the integration of best practices into our daily operations. These actions help reduce our environmental impact and ensure compliance with legal and other applicable requirements.
We also reinforce our commitment to social and economic sustainability through initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Furthermore:
BIOLAN is firmly committed to a working culture of Equality between Women and Men, the visibility of women scientists and technologists, and the promotion of technical vocation in girls, recognising female talent and valuing the role of women in the Biotech sector.
BIOLAN’s staff is currently made up mainly of women, who represent 66% of the team.
Access to education is crucial to improve people’s lives and promote the development of the most disadvantaged groups. At BIOLAN we collaborate with the NGO EGOAIZIA to promote the education of women in Peru. We provide scholarships to women students without economic resources in Alto Trujillo to enable them to pursue higher education, thus eliminating the structural obstacles to earning a living.
Within the SDGs, they recognise the importance of education for sustainable development which requires providing inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. BIOLAN is currently collaborating with the University of Deusto by incorporating one of its students to our staff in order to provide students with knowledge, skills and motivation and to create opportunities for students and professionals from different sectors.
Disability is a question of human rights and also of sustainability, as without inclusion there is no real sustainability. At BIOLAN we collaborate with Lantegi Batuak through its Lanerako Supported Employment Programme, which recognises our contribution to the integration of people with intellectual disabilities into the ordinary labour market.
We have transformed our business in order to remain competitive, ensuring the current and future development of our social and cooperative environment. On our path towards digitalisation, we are transforming both our processes within the company and our products and services.
The new biosensors are designed and manufactured according to eco-design and circular economy principles that allow us to substantially reduce our environmental impact. We are also moving towards a progressive reduction of plastic in our reagent shipments.
