The circular economy is a growing development model in which existing materials and products are kept in the economy for as long as possible; sharing, reusing and recycling these resources to create added value. Instead of being discarded after use, they are reincorporated into the production cycle as secondary raw materials, extending their life cycle.

In this context, eco-design is a pillar that favors the implementation of the circular economy, thanks to the design of more sustainable products that can return to the life cycle or be recycled. It is a phase in the product development process that aims to reduce the impact of products on the environment in order to slow down the depletion of natural resources.

BIOLAN is committed to the circular economy, offering the market an economic model that applies concepts such as sustainability, innovation and competitiveness. For several years, BIOLAN has been offering its customers a new generation of more sustainable biosensors thanks to the miniaturization and reduction of its electronic components. The BIO 7000 is a portable measuring device based on a specific and precise enzymatic biosensor that quantifies different parameters of interest for the food and health industry. It is an eco-designed device, as compared to its previous generation BIO 700, it has reduced weight and volume and optimized the use of its consumables. In addition, the life of the product has been extended, facilitating its maintenance and making it a product oriented to customer loyalty.

One more year, BIOLAN participates in the exhibition “Zirkularrak-Circular”, an initiative organized by Ihobe (Public Society for Environmental Management) that exhibits eco-designed products from different sectors of Basque companies that belong to the circular economy. Last year our team was present at the exhibitions held in Vitoria-Gasteiz and Irun, and this year, it will be facing the public at the Cristina Enea Environmental Resources Center in Donostia-San Sebastian, from June 22 to September 10, among many other products oriented to eco-design and circular economy.
