After little more than a year on the market, BIOLAN’s BIOMILK 7000 LAC method has obtained the qualification of excellent performance in the last Proficiency Testing organized by DRRR (Deutsche Referenzbüro für Ringversuche und Referenzmaterialien GmbH), a prestigious German company dedicated to quality control and laboratory proficiency testing. On this occasion, the BIOMILK 7000 LAC was subjected to a comparative study with other technologies and methodologies that measure lactose in dairy products. Of the 16 laboratories participating in the test, which included chromatographic, enzymatic and biosensor methods, 12 of them achieved excellent performance, including BIOLAN.

The new generation of 7000 series biosensors combines the robustness of BIOLAN’s analytical technology with the advantages of a digitalised, portable and versatile tool.  Specifically, the BIOMILK 7000 LAC method is an enzymatic biosensor capable of quantifying lactose in lactose-free or low-lactose dairy products in a wide range of liquid and solid matrices in less than 1 minute.

The demands on food quality are increasing, becoming the focus of many companies and customers. Today, lactose-free products are gaining an increasing share of the market due to the increase in lactose intolerance in the adult population and a wider range of available products. For this reason, the determination of lactose in lactose-free products is becoming increasingly important for producers, both during the production process and at the time of quality control of the finished dairy product, making the BIOMILK 7000 LAC a very useful ally for the industry.

This result demonstrates for the second consecutive year the accuracy and robustness of the BIOMILK 7000 LAC, positioning it as a reference method for production and control by the dairy industry. This success encourages the entire BIOLAN technical team to continue developing quality analytical solutions for such a delicate and essential sector as the food industry.
