This collaboration aims to create artificial intelligence models that correlate physiological, clinical and genetic data with the results of neurorehabilitation to create a system capable of personalizing treatments according to the evolution of each patient.
The collaboration between BIOLAN and AITA MENNI contemplates the development of a neurorehabilitation system for post-stroke patients that will allow the application of levels of treatment personalization that have not been achieved until now, making them more precise and adaptive in order to reduce the dependence of patients and improve their quality of life. All this will be possible thanks to the application of artificial intelligence models and their integration with data from different measurement devices.
Stroke is one of the main causes of disability in the world, with more than 15 million cases per year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Data from the Basque Government indicate that in 2023 Osakidetza treated nearly 8,900 patients affected by stroke.
Recovery, therefore, is a long, complex and costly process, and currently neurorehabilitation treatments do not yet incorporate new Big Data and Machine Learning technologies that make it possible to analyze clinical, functional and biometric data, making it possible to identify patterns, predict results and adapt treatments to the specific needs of each patient.
This is why, within the framework of the collaboration, different intelligent technologies will be used to monitor parameters throughout the neurorehabilitation process, which will provide valuable data for the generation of models capable of predicting the evolution of the patient and thus dynamically adjust treatments accordingly.
